Welcome Back!! I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! The students had plenty of good and exciting news to share about what they did and all of the chocolate they ate:)
Today in math, we learned a new multiplication game called “Chocolate Chip Cookies” that helps the students visualize multiplication. Ask your student to teach you this game at home as the only materials you need is paper, pencil and one dice!
In language arts, we started to discuss how to create a strong beginning to a story that hooks the reader in! Students were given a variety of story beginnings which they had to rank from best-worst. We then discussed why each of these story beginnings were good or bad, and the qualities of a strong beginning! We also began our new novel study “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown.
In science, we continued our discussion about rollers and began learning about the wheel and axle. Students compared the difference between these two simple machines.
REMINDER: We are heading off to our field trip to the landfill and composting facility TOMORROW! Please send your child to school prepared with a water bottle, packed lunch, and appropriate footwear. We will be departing the school at 9:30am, and arriving back around 1:30pm.
Thank you!
Ms, Munroe
